I love hearing about people’s near death experiences. I am drawn to the afterlife mainly because I feel like I can still connect with people, kind of, once they have passed. I am obsessed with ideas about what happens right after we die.
I definitely feel like people’s spirits or energy hangs around for a while in this plain after they pass away. I have had 3 people in my life pass away and felt something immediately after. Two of these were sudden/tragic deaths and I always thought it was my grandpa dying because he was very old and not in great health. I always felt the tragedy, but didn’t know who is was. The third was my grandma – I knew it was her because I knew she would die that night, and also because what woke me up was the smell of her perfume in my bedroom.
Some people talk about seeing a white light. Some people talk about floating above their bodies and seeing loved ones in the room during their time of death. Some people think that this is a product of the brain dying and nothing more. I think it may be partly that, but also, there is definitely something deeper – spiritual – going on.
Because of what I’ve felt on this side of these two worlds or planes I do think that there is a time period where you can see or be around those you love. So the floating above the bed thing resonates with me.
The white light thing is pretty universal – but also begs the question – is it a conditioned hypnotic response of hearing that this will happen so many times in our lives?
Then who knows what happens!! 🙂 I read an awesome book, Journey of Souls, by Michael Newton, Ph. D. Newton is a hypnotherapist, and he used to do past life regression sessions. He claims that one day he regressed someone to the in-between! The afterlife! He then set out to find volunteers that would allow him to try to do this again and again. The book is about the stories and conclusions he comes to. I don’t resonate with all of it – but there is some definite truth in this book.
One of the things that really stuck with me from that book is the idea of a life review. I do believe in past lives, and I also believe that we are working to grow as spiritual beings. So having a life review of some kind is essential. Another thing that really resonated with me is the idea that we all have guides. I’ve always felt this to some degree and Newton really spells out what he believes about it. It’s extremely interesting.
He also brings up another idea of soul families; the idea that groups of souls hang together throughout lifetimes and gravitate back toward each other in this world as well. So when you go to the other side you get to be with your soul family members who are in the same plane.
I would love to hear what you guys have to say about this! Please comment below and let’s start a conversation.
