Whenever I talk to someone about their limiting beliefs one thing I always make them do is tell me stories of some of the hardest times of their life. Things they’ve overcome and gone through and survived – or maybe even come out of and grown significantly!
When people tell me these stories they fill themselves up with confidence and they don’t even really know what is going on.
There’s no reason you can’t do this on your own, for yourself! 🙂
Once you are calm and relaxed I want you to think of a goal you want to attain right now or something you would like to accomplish in the future that seems out of reach. A shift in your career? Accomplishing something amazing like hiking the Pacific Crest Trail? Think about that and feel the roadblocks come up.
Feel the emotions under the roadblock you are telling yourself exist. What are those emotions? Try to identify them.
Now I want you to think of some amazing things that you have accomplished and think about how you were right before those things happened. When you were a kid in high school a university diploma seemed like a far off dream. When you were very small and watched your parents driving I bet it seemed like an overwhelming task, and like you would never be old enough to drive! 🙂 If you learned that you had a tough illness and you survived it I bet when you first got the news surviving it and being healthy on the other side seemed nearly impossible.
The point is – you did do the accomplishments you are thinking of! You did it.
Think about how far you came from before that accomplishment to actually having it.
You can do hard things!! I guarantee if you’ve lived to a certain age you have these hard accomplishments under your belt.
So really dig into that before and after. See how impossible it seems at the start?
Now I want you to think back to your goals that you have now. The things out there in the future and your roadblocks. All I want you to do is look at each roadblock that comes into your mind and say to yourself, “That is not true.”
And the truth is – it isn’t true. It’s a roadblock that exists in your mind. There are many ways to achieve a goal or have something come into your life. So many possible ways that you can’t be aware of all of them. 🙂 That leaves a LOT of room for surprising things to happen to you!
So just allow them to come up into your mind and then just gently say, “That is not true.”
You can sit in meditation and allow the limiting beliefs to come up as long as feels comfortable for you.
At the end of the meditation send a thank you to your higher power or the universe that we are not all knowing beings, and that there is always room for things to enter our lives that we are currently unable to see.
